Buried or Cremated?

What will happen to your body when you die?

Death, the ultimate end in everyone’s journey of life.   No one really wants to discuss the details of his or her death because it is the end.  Life is no more.  No more time to spend with loved ones, no time for favorite hobbies or traveling to favorite destinations.  Long ago in the past there was no choice about how you would be buried, now there is.  So what is your choice?  Would you like to be buried in the ground or cremated and your ashes spread somewhere that you liked the view or you liked to visit.

When a person dies and is placed in a cemetery to join the many other graves that are there, plastic flowers are placed to say that this person was loved and a tombstone to let people know whom lies below the ground.  These gravesites are visited, sometimes very often by the loved ones for a while until the pain diminishes.   Then the cemetery becomes something like a ghost town.   If this cemetery is a rural one then it is visited once or twice during the summer months to do maintenance.

Of course everyone is entitled to his or her own opinion and in some religions it is not right to cremate one’s body.  I think this is wrong.  I feel that if a person knows that the cost of the funeral is going to financially cripple his or her family that being cremated should be allowed because technically it is the cheapest way.  But just because it is the lowest in choices does not make it any less serious.  The ashes can be spread somewhere where the deceased enjoyed spending time.  This would leave happy memories with those left behind and the place would be visited more often than a gravesite.

Some people are highly organized in life and have even made arrangements for their own funeral.  But this is a low percentage of the population.  So what have you decided?  Have you done your research on the subject?  Are you going to leave it for someone else to decide where your final resting spot should be?   Below is a few links to help you decide which is better.

Good post. I run the funeral-tips.com website and I am a Christian.

From a practical standpoint, both cremation and body burial ultimately turn the body into "ashes". It just takes longer for the buried body to decompose and breakdown.

I wanted to point this out because a lot of people are surprised to learn this.
